New rat poison protocol available for vets

TVM-UK have launched a new protocol to aid in the management of anticoagulant rodenticide toxicity (rat poison). Researching the most up to date advice the protocol aims to create a step by step guide to the correct treatment related to the time since poisoning. There is also emphasis on the correct way to stop treatment to prevent a reversion to a coagulation crisis when faced with the newer longer-acting poisons.

Our disease guide explains all the common confusing areas surrounding presentation, diagnosis and treatment and our protocol can be viewed, downloaded or kept in the practice to help practice staff react quickly. Some of these poisons can now remain in the body for 8 to 12 weeks and so it is vital that vets understand how to safely know when and how  to stop treatment.”
